Business Improvement Areas
What is a BIA (Business Improvement Area)?
BIAs are dynamic agents for business promotion and physical enhancement in designated retail and commercial areas. Through a special funding relationship with the city/municipality, commercial property owners and business tenants create dynamic organizations with unprecedented capacity to further local economic vitality. BIAs create lively and inviting retail streets, foster business growth, and create safe and welcoming environments for businesses, employees and customers. Now numbering almost 60, BIAs operate in virtually all regions of the Province. In Vancouver alone, the city's 20 BIAs operate in most major commercial districts.
What are the advantages of locating in a BIA?
Being part of a BIA means you are in the heart of a neighborhood, and have access to resources and community initiatives to
improve and enhance your business. BIA groups work to add value to area businesses with programs such as street level beautification (street banners, benches, flowers etc), enhanced security, community and cultural events.
