Fraser Street / South Hill BIA
The world in your neighbourhood
What makes South Hill unique?
Location, Parking, Business Mix
: The South Hill BIA covers Fraser Street from 41st Avenue in the north to 50th Avenue in the south. South Hill (Fraser Street) is the neighborhood centre of the Sunset district in Vancouver, home to nearby Memorial Park South, the Sunset Memorial Community Centre and the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre. The South Hill Branch of the Vancouver Public Library, John Oliver Secondary School and the South Hill Adult Education Centre are all situated within the BIA.
Fraser Street is a bazaar of unique cultures with shops full of exotic colors, sounds and aromas. Local customers in South Hill represent a wide mix of Southeast Asian, Chinese, East Indian and European nationalities. The street offers a wide range of small retail shops, a good mix of franchise businesses, restaurants, financial, legal and medical offices, serving the needs of Sunset and Vancouver for over 100 years.
East, West, North and South, South Hill (Fraser Street) is close by everywhere. Customers enjoy easy access by public transit, bicycle or car. In addition to free street parking, South Hill offers free Fraser Street Collective Parking Lots on the west side of the street between 43rd and 49th Avenues. This makes shopping on Fraser Street a pleasant experience. The local streets are quiet compared to other areas, and traffic flows easily.
Fraser Street crosses two major east – west thoroughfares, 41st and 49th Avenues. Transit buses connect passengers with Skytrain and Canada Line stations offering easy access from anywhere in Metro Vancouver. Fraser Street is a major north - south route for cars travelling through Vancouver and via the Knight Street Bridge to Richmond and beyond.
The BIA consists of approximately 214 businesses serving about 86,000 local residents in South Hill's family oriented neighbourhoods. A higher portion (31%) of the residents are between the ages of 35 and 54 and household sizes are larger than the City and Metro Vancouver averages.
On a percentage basis, the South Hill BIA has more than three times as many food stores and health service businesses than the city average and double the proportion of cafes/restaurants, banks and personal services.
A visit to South Hill will show how much vibrancy and history the area has to offer as older European immigrants mingle with growing South Asian, South East Asian and Chinese new comers who settle in this quiet neighbourhood to buy a home and raise a family. Businesses catering to the needs of families will find a large and stable residential base from which to draw their customers. The BIA also continues to draw shoppers from around Metro Vancouver, who are looking for specialty ethnic items and foods.
